Buffy Actor Nicholas Brendon Dies Aged 54

Actor Nicholas Brendon, who played the role of Xander Harris on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has passed away at the age of 54.

Posting on social media, Brendon's family wrote "He was passionate, sensitive, and endlessly driven to create. Those who truly knew him understood that his art was one of the purest reflections of who he was. Most people know Nicky for his work as an actor and for the characters he brought to life over the years. In recent years Nicky has found his passion in painting and art."

Co-stars also paid tribute, with Sarah Michelle Gellar quoting one of Buffy's most iconic monologues: "They'll never know how tough it is to be the one who isn't chosen. To live so near to the spotlight, and never step in it. But I know. I see more than anybody realizes, because nobody's watching me."

Alyson Hannigan, who played Willow on Buffy, also wrote a touching tribute: "My Sweet Nicky, thank you for years of laughter, love and Dodgers. I will think of you every time I see a rocking chair. I love you. RIP."

Brendon's portrayal of Harris brought plenty of humor and hope for seven seasons of Buffy. A character who never displayed any super strength, nor talent for witchcraft, but someone who was there for his Scooby family in every dire situation they faced. He was one of my favourite characters when I first watched the show; In fact, my AOL username back in the day was dedicated to his character. May he rest in peace.
